We spent a day in Akumal, a town about 20 miles south of Playa del Carmen.

Raúl and the statue of Gonzalo Guerrero, a Spaniard who married a Mayan princess. He is said to be the father of the first mestizos.

We grabbed a spot on the beach and enjoyed the view.
